Imersed in technology for work, rest and play - dreaming of a future life in Japan
Botchan Dango are small dumplings made from sweet bean paste and coloured by adzuki beans (brown), eggs (yellow),and powdered green tea (green....duh!). Sweet dumplings like this are quite common in Japan, but this particular style got its name after being mentioned in a novel called "Botchan" (pub. 1906) by the author Soseki Natsume a fleeting resident of Matsuyama city on the island of Shikoku.
Why is this site called Botchandango.com? During my first ever trip to Japan. I stayed for a week in Matsuyama living with a really kind and friendly host family. After a visit to Dogo Onsen, I saw these peculiar looking sweets being sold in a nearby shop. They tasted great and ever since the name has always stuck in my mind.
Whenever I think of Botchan Dango, I recall the excitment of my first trip to Japan the first of many.
